Abstract

The aim of the paper is to study the radiation resistance of quartz fiber light pipes as an active medium of a front calorimeter in future collider experiments. The absorption spectra of different types of quartz fiber light pipes in the wave length range from 200 to 700 nm, irradiated by gamma quanta at the integral dose from 10 to 1000 Mrad, are measured. It is established that there is the spectral range with minimum growth of optical losses when increasing the absorbed dose. It is found also that increasing the dose above 57 Mrad is accompanied by not only increase optical losses but and destruction of the polymer shell of a fiber light pipe.
