Abstract

Chilean small and medium businesses (SMBs, or PyMEs by their Spanish acronym) have been slow to incorporate Internet technologies to their operations, which has lead to little use of the Web as additional channel for sales, support, providers management, etc. A preliminary study by these same authors identified as substantial adoption barrier the lack of knowledge by PyMEs regarding strategies and processes to manage Web site construction with the same level of familiarity as other kinds of providers. This article presents the summary results of that study, identifies some communication problems, and proposes a mechanism to solve them based on the use of a rights and duties language. The proposed mechanism has been validated via elaboration as summary handouts distributed through PyME industry associations (as potential Web site buyers).
